Happy 4th of July: Postcards Americana

We are taking time with our family today to celebrate our great nation.  It’s such a wonderful place to be.  As I hummed a few rounds of “This Land in Your Land” I pasted together a few of our many old postcards depicting places all around the country.

The bicentennial postcard above is one I received in a lot I purchased.  I remember what a great summer I had in 1976.  It was a very exciting time to be a kid.  Bruce Jenner was on every Wheaties box and sparklers were still acceptable nearly everywhere.

savour… national pride

I have a bit of an obsession with postcards.  I must admit that I find them deliciously tacky, but I have never purchased one new.  It’s the old ones that I like most and I have lots of them.  I routinely use them as notecards in packages (some of you have received them) or just a quick message to a friend.  I purchase them in lots and often times the backs have been filled out already.  I like that even more.  It’s fun to get a peek at a moment in someone else’s life.

I have no problem writing right over the top of of someone else's message with a sharpie and sending it along.  You can see more about the topic in our Postcard Revival post.  In the meantime, check out some of these fun cards from locales around America. I've included a few personal messages to go along. Enjoy...
