Weekend Wrap Up

Happy Sunday.

You've probably wondered where I've been. It has been quiet in the Nest for the month of May. I have been busy wrapping up Halloween... just a few projects left after today. June looks to be a little more subdued with plenty of time to catch up on sharing with you. This week I made cocktails, costumes, and a few more treats. One of the things I loved, but didn't make the list this week was Parfait Amour liqueur. This tasty spirit has a curacao base and is flavored with all sorts of herbs and such. Its purple color makes it perfect for a festive drink.

I am looking forward to the freshness of summer recipes and celebrating outdoors. I hope you join us for an inspired summer. In the meantime, here are a few of the things I loved as I pushed my way through work and research this week.

1 The Hundred-Foot Journey - from DreamWorks. i can't tell you how excited I am to see this movie. Based on the book by Richard C. Morais, this is the story of a culinary ingenue who ends up in France with his family, opens a restaurant, and become entangled with a restaurateur across the street played by Helen Mirren. He learns from her, and as far as I can see, she learns just as much. You can see the trailer here

2 Geometric Wood Sleeves- from Groovemade. These stylish sleeves for your iPad made by Portland based Groovemade come in either maple or walnut. There are other varieties, but I LOVE this patterned one.

3 Farro - Whether you use the whole grain variety of the semipearled version, you will be glad you added this ancient grain to your menu. The nutty flavor and wholesomeness of it make it perfect for risotto or salads. Get ready for summer with cold salads with a farro base topped with crunchy freshness.

4 Soundvibe - What the what? Turn just about anything that vibrates into a speaker. Cereal box? YES! I have not purchased one of these (yet) but I am, as always, amazed at clever ideas... and the people who have them. See the Soundvibe in action here.

5 Kettle Pizza - like pizza? How about grilling? How about both... at once? This tool is perfect for summer outdoor entertaining. The piece fits most kettle grills and slides comfortably between the kettle and lid to let you make perfect smoky pizza. See more about it at KettlePizza or at Crate & Barrel.
