Piano, piano

“Slowly, slowly.”

In Italy, piano, piano is more than an expression. It’s a way of life—a gentle reminder to slow down, savour the moment, and appreciate the simple rituals that bring us together.

Piano, piano began as an original artwork created directly on a concrete panel using India ink. Rather than painting with washes, the image was built through repeated applications of full-strength ink that were selectively lifted from the concrete surface, allowing the material itself to become part of the artwork.

The work celebrates the graphic language of French painter Bernard Buffet and the cinematic spirit of iconic Italian actor Totò, the finished piece celebrates one of life’s simplest pleasures: a plate of pasta enjoyed without hurry.

The elongated figure, suspended strand of spaghetti, and restrained monochrome palette are a quiet reminder that the best meals—and often the best moments—are the ones we refuse to rush.

This museum-quality archival print faithfully reproduces the texture, character, and subtle imperfections of the original concrete artwork.

Artist Note
I’ve spent much of my career photographing food. This series is different. Rather than documenting meals, I wanted to explore the rituals surrounding them. “Piano, piano” began with a concrete panel intended for furniture and became a meditation on slowing down. The rough surface, the lifted ink, and the exaggerated figure all became part of that conversation. I hope it reminds you to savour what is in front of you.
